Shushing sound for baby

A slow, rhythmic “shhh, shhh”, recorded and looped. Give your voice a rest.

Why shushing works

Shushing is one of the oldest tricks for calming a baby, and one of the well-known “5 S's” of soothing. The rhythmic shh is loud and steady, a bit like the sounds a baby heard in the womb.

Shush or white noise?

The shush has rhythm, which helps calm a fussy baby. White noise or a hair dryer is even, which suits long sleep. Many parents start with the shush and keep a steady noise afterwards; in the web app you can mix them.

How to use it safely

Keep the volume low, the phone at least 2 m (7 ft) from the crib and never inside it, and turn it down once the baby is calm. See the safety guide.

Questions

How loud should the shush be?

When soothing in your arms, parents often shush about as loud as the crying, then lower it. For sleep, use the lowest volume that works, far from the crib.

Is it free?

Yes. It plays in your browser with no ads and no account.

Can it replace a real shush?

It saves your voice, but your presence is still what calms most. Use it as a helper.
